Marek was a safety on the WR
On the 25-th of September, member of Freedive World team, Marek Apjar was safety on Natalia Molchanova´s WR in Constant weight. You can watch his superb technique off depp safety on this video. His appearence begins in 3 minutes and 17 seconds of the video. Of course big congratulations to Natalia Molchanova to her new WR. The organizers could not choose better safety, because Marek has just recent experience how to safety during deep BO. :-) The training dummy was me on Triple Depth and Marek lift me from 15m nice and easy - even without interupting my nice dream :-)

Triple Depth
Everybody knows Triple Depth, the competition of the all three depth disciplines at the Blue Hole in Dahab. The competition organized by Freedive Dahab (Lotta Ericson and Linda Paganelli) is pretty demanding and difficult. To overcome FIM, CWT and CNF in three days is really only for the best and this determined the list of the competitioners pretty much.
After the unsuccessful competition in Croatia on Rab I decided to improve my achievements at the Triple Depth and tried to appoint myself for the World Championship at Bahamas. It did not turn out very well but let’s take it in order. From the Czech republic I set off with Jarmila Slovenčíková and in Dahab the traditional warm welcome from Flavia and Marek awaited us … shisha, grilling and plum brandy - so called slivovitz.
Training went very well. Right in the beginning I improved my results – 80m CWT and 40m CNF. At that time Matt Malina from Poland had been training in Dahab for a few weeks already. And according to his results everybody saw him as a hot favourite of the contest. He had unbelievably long and mainly deep dives, e.g. 70m CNF in 3:50. Few days before the contest Alexey Molchanov appeared at the competitioners’ list and so the winner was for 99% sure :-)

Marek, Flavia and I created a team with a poetic name – inspired by Marek’s and my special breathing training - “shisha team”.
A few days before the contest, I’d managed to “produce” a depth black out while trying to reach 87m CWT. Marek turned out to be a perfect safety and dragged me out of 15m. My psyche and physical condition were apparently badly influenced by this and therefore everything went downhill. Yet the first contest discipline – FIM – went perfect, 70m and white card. However next two days were “in the name of blackouts” – I blacked out at both tries for 83m CWT and 40m CNF at the water level at the protocol and I was disqualified. Thereby I made – at least for Linda’s fun - a blackout record of this year. Obviously with no prize.
Marek showed again that he is a real freediver talent and with his achievements of 70m FIM, 76m CWT and 63 m CNF ended up as the second runner-up. He improved his personal record in CNF and is slowly drawing apart from all the competitioners from the Czech republic. The winner, as anticipated, was Alexey Molchanov: 90m FIM, 90m CWT, 66m CNF. The rising polish star Matt Malina was runner-up: 80m FIM, 80m CWT, 70m CNF.
Flavia progressed to the last discipline CNF. Unfortunately she had a black out and in overall she ended up at the eighth place with the results of 51m FIM and 60m CWT. Together we discussed our blackout experiences, shared what each of us dreamt about and agreed that those dreams were more pleasant and nicer than usually. :-)
Jarmila Slovenčíková confirmed herself as a leader of the competition and the best Czech freediver among women. She won this year’s Triple Depth with results: 59m FIM, 68m CWT and 52m CNF. Moreover in FIM and CNF she broke the national records – her own. :-)
Absolutely perfect organization and monstrous good-bye party eventually dwarfed my negative after-taste from the messed-up performances and I am already looking forward to the next year. Primarily to the after-party. :-)
