Bizzy Blue Hole

There is always adrenaline when it comes to competitions. Especially in the international ones and in the paradise of freediving – Blue Hole in Dahab (Egypt)

I went to Egypt a week before the competition to train in deep water and to share experiences with Marek. We also had synchronize our training. Marek decided to focus on CNF and I decided to enjoy my new Glide and work on my CWT. We were successful from the very beginning. Everyone was amazed by Marek’s technique – omly three strokes would get him into a freefall faze. Even my progress was significant when I pushed my limits another 10 meters deeper from previous -50m to my new PB -60m. I would assume that besides Mark’s coaching there was another thing that helped me – new fluid goggles and a nose clip instead of a mask.

Bizzy Blue hole competition has a kind of strange classification of points. Final results come not only from standard AIDA disciplines but also other, quite weird ones. For example, a NOSE CLIP ONLY discipline where you dive only in your swim trunks and you are allowed to use a nose clip only. Also ratio between CNF and CWT is 1.3 points.

Both of us decided to do two competition dives. Marek announced 59m in CNF and I announced 65m CWT. I think we both managed to stay relatively calm during our training. The result of it was two relaxed dives into announced depths, clean protocol and a white card for both of us. During our next training I moved deeper (-72m) and I had a dilemma what depth to announce. Marek worried what depth should he go for to beat his rival Swedish freediver Christian Ernest. The decision was made - 74m for me and 61m for Marek (same depth as Christian Ernest). The weather during the second day of the competition was terrible and I was freezing even during warm-up. Also waves were high and wind was strong. “I can’t wait to be under water, at least it will be quiet,” I thought. It ended up as one of my most beautiful dives and I surfaced with a tag brought from -74 meters. Marek also dived for his tag in 61m depth without any problems and brought it back to the surface.

As to final results, Marek took second place right behind Christian. They both had announced same depths in AIDA dives bat Christian happened to “stick” his hand with a watch deeper in nose-clip only discipline and took firs place. My CWT dives brought me 9th place.

Great event with an excellent organizing, lots of fun with world-class freedivers. The only negative thing was the weather. It will hopefully be better next year – the weather as well as the results.
